Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following ready:

Docker and Docker Compose installed on your server or local machine. Install Docker

An active Jira or Azure DevOps instance with API access. You'll need credentials to connect during setup.

Optional: Code Platform

A GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps Repos account for code and CI/CD metrics. This can be added later.

Installation

QualityProfit runs as two Docker containers — just pull and start.

Create a Docker Compose File

Create a new directory and save the following as docker-compose.yml:

          mkdir qualityprofit && cd qualityprofit
curl -o docker-compose.yml https://qualityprofit.io/downloads/docker-compose.yml
        

Or download the file directly and place it in a new folder.

Start the Application

Pull the pre-built images and launch the dashboard:

docker compose up -d

This pulls the latest images and starts the backend on port 8000 and the frontend on port 3000.

Open the Dashboard

Navigate to http://localhost:3000 in your browser. The setup wizard will guide you through:

Choosing quick or advanced configuration
Naming your organization
Connecting Jira or Azure DevOps
Setting team economics (sizes, hourly rates)
Reviewing and confirming your setup

Data Extraction

Pulls defects, stories, sprints, effort logs, PRs, and pipeline data from your connected platforms via their APIs.

Correlation Engine

Detects causal chains across tools — linking code changes to defects, sprints to release delays, and effort to outcomes.

Financial Quantification

Translates quality metrics into savings across four categories: defect reduction, release acceleration, productivity, and infrastructure.

Data & Storage

Everything runs locally — your data never leaves your infrastructure.

Configuration

Organization settings, team economics, and business context are stored as JSON in a Docker volume (qp-data).

Baselines

Captured metric snapshots for tracking improvement over time. Stored alongside configuration and persist across container restarts.

Metrics

Fetched live from your connected platforms on each dashboard load. QualityProfit does not store copies of your project data.

After Your Trial

When your 30-day trial ends, choose the plan that fits your organization. Enter your license key in the dashboard to continue — all your configuration and baselines are preserved.
